The Pianos at Heinz Hall are all built in New York. Carnegie Mellon University has one Steinway D built in Hamburg. The differences are pretty significant according to David Andersen in his article:
One of these two New York Steinway D’s will be chosen by Emmanuel Ax in the coming days or weeks to be the new concerto piano for the PSO. They sit in the fourth floor rehearsal room awaiting the final showdown which will take place on the stage of Heinz Hall.
